Day trip to Nara

We went to Nara for a day trip last holiday. I wanted to show Great Buddha and deer to Ami. Nara prefecture is also known as ancient capital of Japan so it is very historical place.
It took us about 40min from Osaka where we live.
Tōdai-ji (the Eastern Great Temple),is a Buddhist temple complex located in the city of Nara, Japan. Its Great Buddha Hall (Daibutsuden), reputedly the largest wooden building in the world, houses a colossal bronze statue of the Buddha Vairocana, known in Japanese simply as the Daibutsu . The temple also serves as the Japanese headquarters of the Kegon school of Buddhism. The temple is a listed UNESCO World Heritage site as "Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara," together with seven other sites including temples, shrines and places in the city of Nara.















Sika deer, regarded as messengers of the gods in the Shinto religion, roam the grounds freely.
My husband afraid of Sika may
attack him for the food he is holding...

We went on the ship called Santa maria at Nanko (Osaka port). You can see the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan on the picture behind my husband. This aquarium is massive and you can see about 580 different kind of fishes and mammals. http://www.kaiyukan.com/eng/index.htm We went to the shopping arcade to buy Osaka's famous steamed buns for first time. In this arcade there were many nice little Japanese traditional shops of food, flowers,cloths, sweets and so on. Then we found the bakery we were looking for. They give you 50% discount if you go with a child under the age of 5!!! which was a great offer. There steamed buns were so good. A lovely Dinner at Taiko-en.

Taiko -en is a famous exclusive hotel in Osaka. People often use this hotel for wedding reception. Actually, it is 5min walk from our apartment . This place was used for the banquet when the G8 Finance Ministers Meeting was held in Osaka2008.6.13. http://www.g8summit.go.jp/eng/venue/osaka_04.html We went there for a dinner on Saturday and we had a great time. This is an appetiser . Each plates are just an art. Little plates and bowls like this comes one after the other. Kaiseki style. Japanese live long!?

Here is Ami(when she was little over one month old) and my grad mother. My grand mother is going to be 95!!!! in August. She is very well and surprisingly she still teaches Japanese Poem called Haiku. My grand father is 98!!!!!!!!!!! Although he in nursing home, he is very well and his mind is still sharp. Japanese average life expectancy is 79．19 years old for men and 85．99 years old for women. We held world longest average life expectancy for 22 successive years. I think Japanese food and life style is very healthy, this is why I would like to share with many people all over the world. These are the hospital meal after the labor of Ami. I had to stay in the hospital for 7day after the labor but I didn't mind at all. But don't get me wrong not all Japanese hospitals give you the great meals like this.... This hospital is private hospital and have better service, they even gave me a massage with aroma oil. My husband Iwao was born in this same hospital too 41 years ago....
